Dream Kitchen Makeover
When moving into our new home, the one thing that I wanted was a kitchen with white cabinets! And guess what, that was the one thing I comprised on in order to get the home we loved. I’ll have to do another post on how we found our home but this one will be focused on what I’ve done so far to update my kitchen. The kitchen is my space to create by cooking fresh healthy meals for my family (sometimes already made frozen meals we pop in the oven when life is lifeing or need something with little effort lol) or being the hostess with the mostest for my friends.
Kitchen upgrades can greatly improve the functionality and appearance of your space. Some popular upgrades include installing new countertops, adding a backsplash, upgrading appliances, replacing cabinet doors and hardware, and installing new flooring. Always consider your budget and priorities to determine which upgrades are most important to you.
Those high dollar items are going to be full kitchen renos like new cabinets, countertops, appliances and backsplash. We are very fortunate to start of with a gorgeous foundation when we purchased our home so I didn’t want to go high dollar when it came to the upgrades I wanted.
Tips for upgrading kitchen
- Consider replacing outdated appliances with energy-efficient models.
- Add a fresh coat of paint or new backsplash to give your kitchen a new look.
- Install new lighting fixtures to brighten up the space.
- Upgrade your countertops with durable materials like granite or quartz
- Install new cabinet hardware to give your cabinets a fresh look.
- Add a kitchen island or breakfast bar for more counter and storage space.
- Consider adding a new sink or faucet for a functional and stylish upgrade
- Add some greenery or plants to bring some life to your kitchen
Most bang for your buck
If your kitchen cabinets are outdated or color not what you want you will be surprised with what a fresh splash of paint will do to your kitchen. Remember a kitchen can date your home, depending on what you have in it. I originally had what came with the home which was dark brown cabinets. They weren’t bad, but they did darken the space. I decided instead of replacing the cabinets (because they were a perfect foundation 😃 ) to instead get them painted White White, update my faucet and add some matching hardware I loved. Some people say a white and gold kitchen is going out of style…In my opinion it’s timeless and classic and not too trendy. I could also always update the hardware to a different color if I felt the need but I LOVE a white kitchen.
At the end of the day, do what makes your heart happy that you love to wake up and walk out to in the mornings. If I could have done anything different I would have done all pulls instead of the knobs on the bottom cabinets. I still love the look but just to keep it consistent I would have used all 5″ bars for all the cabinets.

Now let’s talk about the pendant lights 😍 They very much give RH which is what I wanted. I didn’t want Cozy Candlestick or farmhouse lights because that’s not my vibe. But these light give, timeless, modern pieces that stand out, make a statement but still fit with the ambiance of my home and how I want my family and I to feel in the space. If you have a somewhat large island think of the Rule of Three, have 3 pendants for sure. If you have a smaller island (5-6ft) then it may be best to use two pendants.

Chandelier Placement
Your Table should be at least 2x the size of your chandelier. I have a large rectangle table so I went big or went home with my chandelier choice. Make sure when installing your chandelier you look at the height from the table. You want it not too high so that it looks like a ceiling chandelier. You also do not want it too low that it interferes with your view when you’re sitting at the table. A good guide to start at is 30-34″ above the table. I decided to go with a Sputnik chandelier with milk glass globes. This compliments my Machinist style glass globe pendants above the island. It’s giving a very sophisticated feel with modern vibes. At the same time fusing form and function that grabs your attention from any angle.

Envision how it all comes together
One thing about updating your home is to understand your vibe and what you’re drawn too. When you’re scrolling social media or out shopping when you stop into the home furniture stores, what grabs your attention? Take note of that and start creating your vision board. This is what I did before making any updates. I wanted to make sure I understood exactly what I envisioned. This helped me to see how everything would fit together in the end. A lot of my home inspirations come from Restoration Hardware (RH), High Fashion Home and Pottery Barn. They are all different looks but hear me out.
I love how RH brings the classic, timeless looks but in my opinion it doesn’t always look cozy and livable. Pottery Barn, gives the cozy and comfort feel when I walk in. When I’m looking for a statement piece or look I search High Fashion Home for inspiration. That’s why I say my home is a blend of the three, Classic, Boujee and Cozy lol
